Diplomatic relations between Ireland and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were established in 1974 on a non-residential basis.

On 12 October 2009 Ambassador Ciarán Madden presented credentials to HH President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nayhan establishing the Irish Embassy in Abu Dhabi.

 Following the completion of Ambassador Madden’s tenure, His Excellency Patrick Hennessy assumed the responsibilities of Irish Ambassador to the UAE in August 2014.

There is a Visa Facilitation Office in Dubai. The office deals with visa queries only. Passport and consular queries should be submitted to the Embassy. The contact details for the Visa Facilitation Office are:

Office hours

The Embassy’s public office is open from 09.00am until 13.30pm Sunday to Thursday. People wishing to visit the Embassy outside these times can do so by appointment.

Should an emergency arise outside of office hours please contact the Embassy’s main number (+971 (0)2 4958200) and leave a message on the answering machine. The answering machine is monitored regularly and a duty officer will contact you directly.

The Visa Facilitation Office is open from 08.30am until 12.00pm Sunday to Thursday.


Passport renewal and other consular services

Passport applications for Irish nationals resident in the UAE can be processed through the Embassy in Abu Dhabi.

Passport application forms are available for collection from the Embassy in Abu Dhabi and from the Irish Facilitation Visa Office in Dubai.

Visa-required nationals wishing to travel to Ireland must obtain a visa before they travel. Applications can be submitted at the Embassy in Abu Dhabi or the Visa Facilitation Office in Dubai.
