Irish All Star Players are set to descend upon Dubai to coincide with the Dubai Duty Free Gulf Gaelic Games
Dubai Celts will host the Dubai Duty Free Gaelic Gulf Gaelic Games on the 26th/27th of January 2007 at the Dubai Polo Grounds, Arabian Ranches.
The highlight of this international Gaelic Football tournament will be a match between the Vodafone 2006 All Stars. The All Stars are selected annually by leading Irish media from the top players of the 32 counties of Ireland. An All Star award is a highly treasured memento and denotes the success of a player at the very highest level of the game.
The Gulf Gaelic Games, sponsored by Dubai Duty Free and co-sponsored by Aer Lingus and Byrne Rental, are predicted to attract up to 40 teams from Ireland, London, the GCC and Asia. Over 500 players are expected to compete.
Over the 2-day GAA extravaganza spectators will witness footballers battle it out for a place in Saturday’s finals which will be held from 1pm, followed by the Vodafone All Stars match which kicks off at 4pm.
Saturday 27th promises to be a great day out for all the family. From traditional Irish music sessions and Irish dancing performances to pony rides, bouncy castles and face-painting, there will be plenty of activities orrganised by the Dubai Irish Society to keep all entertained.
“The tournament marks a major milestone for the Dubai Celts and for the growth of Irish football in the GCC,” said Colm McLaughlin, Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free and President of Dubai Celts. “The fact that the All Stars chose Dubai as this year’s venue for their annual tournament is a reflection on the growth of the city as a major sporting destination and we are delighted to help in making this a hugely successful tournament. We expect to attract over 3,000 spectators to the Polo Club grounds to watch these GAA heroes in action.”
The Vodafone All Star touring party will consist of 60 players, the heads of Irish GAA, an Irish Ministerial delegation and 20 of Ireland’s top broadcast and print media journalists from the Irish Times, the Irish Independent, RTE, ITV and the BBC.
