Craic agus Ceol

A Céilí with plenty of craic agus ceol was the Dubai Irish Society’s first social event of the year. Held in the beautiful grounds of the Le Meriden Mina Seyahi overlooking the gulf and the Palm Jumeirah, there were over 200 guests in attendance.

We were very proud to welcome our Ambassador Tom Russell who was greeted by our lovely Dubai Rose Aileen McCarthy and the Chairman of the Dubai Irish Society Brian King. Guests were treated to a sumptuous buffet of local Arabic dishes while Abu Dhabi group Inis Oir entertained us with uplifting melodic tunes that soon had guests kicking up their heels and dancing. Our caller for the evening was Olive Clancy who ensured that there were both new and old faces on the dance floor even if they were not quite Riverdance material!! We were also treated to an amazing set by the Siobhán Killalea School of Dance who showed us all how a reel should be performed.

Spot prizes were given to guests who were really put to the test with some comical tasks. One gent put Michael Flatley to shame as he was seen giving us a 360 degree on the dance floor, having succeeded in the quest to find and wear two different pairs of ladies stilettos. Thanks goes to our sponsors for the evening – Emirates Airline, Dubai Festival City, Maria Dowling Hair Salon, Patsy Collins Hair Beauty Nails, Dante restaurant and The Dhow restaurant at the Le Meridian Mina Seyahi. The most sought after prize, two Emirates Airline tickets to anywhere on their route network, was won by David Hanley, Chairman of the Dubai Celts.

All proceeds from the Céilí went to Breast Cancer and with 10,000 AED raised, we would like to thank all who bought raffle tickets and attended this event.

A special thank you to Erin O Neill for her great organization and to the entire committee, who made this event so special. The evening was a huge success and the beginning of many more gatherings like it for the future.
